We'd like to introduce you to ourselves, the four of us who were crazy enough to give up our good paying jobs and homes and move to Summer Lake after we purchased the Lodge in 1994. It isn't often that people have a chance to realize their dreams, to move from cities to remote locations where their hearts find contentment and their lives receive fulfillment. We feel fortunate that this has happened for us and are pleased to be able to share a bit of our lives with you through these pages. Please read and enjoy them!
Two of the fine Summer Lake horses

Gil takes a break
Meet Gil. Prior to Summer Lake, Gil was the owner/operator of a sheet metal fabrication company just outside Portland, Oregon. His skills come in handy at the Lodge and have placed him in charge of the on-going remodeling and renovations. In fact, Gil is the general contractor, foreman, and worker who accomplishes most of the work! In his spare time, he rides a reining horse named Daunte, who has been in training at Diamond B Stables near Newburg OR. for the past year. Gil will start showing competitively this year.

Jan prepares breakfast
Jan dreams of returning the Arabian horse to it's roots and works to breed healthy stock that can be used in the rough rocky Eastern Oregon country, an area where ranching is the most valuable resource. Her breeding program is expanding and doing very well. Soon we will provide you with a web site address where you can read about her program in greater detail. At the restaurant, Jan is waitress, cook, and hostess. Before coming to Summer Lake, Jan worked for 22 years at Smurfit in Portland.

Marie as hostess
Marie, also is hostess, cook, waitress, and book keeper at the restaurant. In her "past life" before the Lodge venture, she was the owner/proprietor of a very successful bakery in Yachats, Oregon. Her baking skills have brought a whole new arena of breads to the restaurant, and they are indeed a fine addition to any meal. Marie loves to ride her gray Arabian gelding Ashan, who she's raised and trained herself, on the spectacular trails around the Summer Lake Basin.  Sewing creations for the home as well as silk wild rags for the local buckaroos is another pursuit she enjoys.

Gary serving up dinner
Here's Gary. His many talents lend themselves well to the entire area, not just Summer Lake. He is a engineer/911 dispatcher for the city of Lakeview, 60 miles to the east as well as an EMT Intermediate for the Silver Lake Ambulance. He is also chief of the Summer Lake fire engine. His roots and Jan's (they are siblings) go way back in the area since his grandparents were residents of the small town of Adel just down the road. His knowledge of the area, historical and current, are simply encyclopedactic! His information has sent many a tourist on pleasant day journeys into the past and present. When he isn't busy on the computer, he is the chief cook at the restaurant. Gary, along with the other three, enjoys horseback riding.  Ask him to show you his palomino filly Popcorn.
